THE KMGC EASTER EGGSTRAVAGANZA 2009
STROKES ADVENTURE GOLF COURSE, MARGATE
APRIL 11th 2009

When the best of Planet Hastings met the KMGC on the seafront at Hastings 2 days after Christmas 2008, the Cupcake Classic was born. It only seemed natural therefore, to have the return leg at Strokes at Easter. The inaugural KMGC Easter Eggstravaganza was held at Strokes on Saturday 11th April amid great anticipation. Whilst waiting for the elite Planet Hastings crew to battle through the Bank Holiday traffic, the KMGC bided their time by putting in some KIT rounds.
Representing Planet Hastings were Dave ‘Filmstar’ Harding, Jo ‘Cupcake’ Williamson and Nick ‘Tophole’ Chitty. The KMGC were represented by Scott ‘Donkey Gringo’ Lancley, Andy ‘No 2’ Exall, Rich ‘The Bass’ Hopkins, Andy ‘Ex-Sarge’ Booth, Sue ‘Duffy Moon’ Forrest, Dave ‘Four Strings Forrest, Marc ‘Chappers’ Chapman, Sean ‘Freebird’ Homer, Marion ‘Double trouble’ Homer, and resting due to a bug, but cheering on her team mates, Jennifer ‘ Twinkle toes’ Forrest. The newest recruits to KMGC, Alex and Phil Exall sent their best wishes for a KMGC victory from Butlins.
The groups were decided according to birth date for the first round, and with another innovation from the KMGC for scoring, the round began. The sun shone, aces were scored, the course proved as challenging as ever with cheers and jeers at the difficult 8th (El Diablo) and 11th (Heartbreak Ridge) holes.
At the half way mark, as hot cross buns and Easter cakes were enjoyed by all, vying for the last place prize were Double Trouble and Filmstar. In third place were RTB, second No.2 and leading the pack, KMGCs Captain Freebird. Unfortunately due to the delays getting the comp under way as the PH team battled through the traffic, Andy Exall had to withdraw before the second round due to family commitments, and the round was re-drawn according to position.
With Marion playing so poorly Dave Harding began to suspect the last place prize was a car and was ready for a stewards ‘enquiry if insider knowledge had a bearing in her bad playing. The rest of the field continued to play well in what must have been the hottest day of the year so far, dodging the many customers on the Strokes course. The round finished and the prize ceremony began. Every player received a Cadburys’ Creme Egg for their efforts, and prizes were awarded for last, third, second and first place.
Winning not a car, but a Smarties Easter Egg in last place was Marion Homer. Third with a score of 44 and 36 was Planet Hastings Nick ‘Top Hole’ Chitty, who took home a Smarties Easter Egg and the knowledge he had scored the most aces in the competition – 8 in total. Andy ‘Ex-Sarge’ Booth came second for Team Kent with a score of 40 and 37. He also took home a Smarties Easter Egg.
In first place, proudly leading Team Kent and having organised the tournament as well was Sean ‘Freebird’ Homer with two blistering scores of 35 and 36. Sean won an Easter Sponge Bob trophy and became the first player in history to hold both the Christmas Cupcake Classic and the Easter Eggstravaganza titles at the same time!!!!
Thanks to everyone who played, ensuring the event was played with great spirit and enjoyed by all who attended!
